Monte Albán was the ancient capital of the Zapotec civilization (c. 500 BCE - 750 CE) in Oaxaca, Mexico. Perched on a mountain top, this ceremonial center contains some of the earliest writing in Mesoamerica and mysterious 'dancer' carvings.
